Why Houston & South Texas Charity Information Service?
The Houston & South Texas Charity Information Service was created to provide easy-to-read reports on charitable organizations in the metropolitan Houston area and South Texas.
Houston & South Texas Charity Information Service is Houston's only source of comprehensive information on local charities.
Reviews are FREE. There is no charge to charities for an evaluation; donors do not pay to access the resulting reports.
Our goal is to increase public confidence in Houston and South Texas' nonprofit sector and encourage philanthropy.
The Process
For each charity, Houston & South Texas Charity Information Service reviews financial statements, tax filings, annual reports, solicitations, direct mail pieces and other information.
Based on this information, Houston & South Texas Charity Information Service determines whether a charity meets its 20 Standards for Charity Accountability.
Houston & South Texas Charity Information Service produces a report on the charity, which is an impartial, factual account of the organization's programs, finances and governance based on the information the organization provides. Houston & South Texas Charity Information Service sends a draft of each report to the organization to give it an opportunity to review and comment on its report before we release it to the public. We work with each organization on any areas of concern.
Organizations must be a publicly soliciting 501c3 organization in operation for at least 2 years.
Please Participate
In the interest of full disclosure and accountability to the public, we hope that you will agree to provide information.
We publish full reports on over 500 charities, which are available to all on our web site. It is used by the general public, Better Business Bureau of Houston and South Texas member companies, foundations, individual donors and members of the local press.
